Simple Bone Broth

This is a simple recipe for a very soothing and gut healing broth. There are so many things I love about this dish. It’s super nourishing and gentle on the digestive system, it’s no waste, it’s inexpensive and it’s so versatile.broth glow.jpg

There’s good reason why broth is legendary for it’s healing benefits – we’ve all heard of the chicken soup when we are sick right? Broth contains the nutrient dense minerals of the bones as electrolytes, a form that is easy to assimilate in our bodies whilst giving our digestion a break.

Enjoy this broth just on it’s own or reheat leftover vegies through it for a quick, easy and sustaining meal. You can also use it anywhere a recipe calls for stock which is great for kids that need those extra nutrients hidden!

This is a very basic recipe, feel free to be flexible with this but do not skip the apple cider vinegar! This is essential as it draws out all the lovely bio available nutrients from the bones.


1.5 kgs bones
Raw vegies & vegie scraps – I usually use 1 onion, 1 carrot & 1 stalk celery and a few cloves of garlic
Handful of herbs – I love a couple of bay leaves and thyme, oregano & rosemary
3 tblsp apple cider vinegar
6 peppercorns
1 tblsp quality sea salt (uniodised)
Water to cover (2 to 3 Litres)

Put all the ingredients into a slow cooker. Set the temperature at low and leave overnight. Strain and put in jars and seal while still hot, this will create a vacuum and allow your broth to stay fresh for longer.

If you do not have a slow cooker simply place all the ingredients into a large stock pot. Bring to a simmer then put the heat on the lowest possible setting and leave overnight.

This should last in the fridge for at least a week if jarred when hot and sealed. You can also freeze this in portions for convenience.
