Real Hot Chocolate

The mornings are cooler and a lot of Aussie kids grow up with a hot chocolate milk to warm their tummies. I give this one the real 5 star health rating, and it only has three ingredients! It’s just as quick to make as the chocolate milk mix in a tin, (honestly I’m not just saying that!!) It’s too easy and too yummy and a healthy way to enjoy this chocolatey  treat. This recipe makes 4 cups, so please feel free to divide the quantity if you are only making one or two – it is still just as quick to make.

Another hot or should I say cool, tip is to not heat these ingredients at all in the Summer. Just combine them in a glass bottle and allow them to sit in the fridge overnight and the flavours will naturally infuse. This is a great way to enjoy it as an iced drink.

This recipe is free from gluten, grains, dairy and refined sugar, and suitable for paleo, GAPS or vegan protocols.

4 cups almond or coconut milk
2 tblsp cacao powder
2 tblsp honey or maple syrup for vegans

Add all the ingredients to a pot on the stovetop over low to medium heat.

Gently whisk and combine until heated. Don’t boil as you don’t to split the milk, you will see a nice steam coming from the pan but it won’t be bubbling or boiling.

Serve it as is, or use a whisk to froth the milk up like a latte foam. You can also add some of the beautiful Gut Healing Marshmallows for a real decadent treat that will love your guts.Seriously how easy is that! You could also try carob powder instead of cacao powder for something different too.
I hope you love this recipe, and find it an easy swap for the sugary version. I love connecting with you so please find me out on socials, or show me your pics of your beautiful creations – I love seeing what you get up to in the kitchen!
